Their idea – walk and sit on the street, maybe you’ll get noticed. Here is another idea. If you want to affect the 1% of wealthy, instead of marching somewhere, stop paying them!

From vaccines to painkillers, the multi-national corporation Novartis had enjoyed making a fortune on our ills. In 2010 this Switzerland based drug company reported $50.6 billion profit, up 30% from last year. Most popular products? Flu vaccines and Excedrin. This week, the company issued a voluntary recall of many of their products as pills were mislabeled, chipped off and mixed up with other drugs.

How could this happen??
Not much explanation is given other than general statements about possible mix up at their Nebraska facility during production and shipment. The Nebraska facility is currently suspended from operations. On January 8, 2012, Novartis issued the following statement:

“Basel, January 8, 2012 – Novartis Consumer Health Inc. (NCH) informed customers, that it is voluntarily recalling all lots of select bottle packaging configurations from retailers of Excedrin® and NoDoz® products with expiry dates of December 20, 2014 or earlier as well as Bufferin® and Gas-X Prevention® products with expiry dates of December 20, 2013 or earlier, in the United States. NCH is taking this action as a precautionary measure, because the products may contain stray tablets, capsules, or caplets from other Novartis products, or contain broken or chipped tablets.”

Confused and bedazzled customers are asked to call the following number with their questions:
Consumer Relationship Center at 1-888-477-2403 (available Monday-Friday 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Eastern Time).

Later in the same press release about the recall the company assures the customers about their commitment to quality.

So should we trust them??

Absolutely not. In fact, if you read the disclaimer, it specifically asks you NOT to:
“The foregoing release contains forward-looking statements that can be identified by terminology such as “committed”, plans”, “will” or similar expressions, or by express or implied discussions regarding potential new indications or labeling for Excedrin, Bufferin, Gas-X Prevention and NoDoz or regarding potential future revenues from Excedrin, Bufferin, Gas-X Prevention and NoDoz. You should not place undue reliance on these statements. ”

How clever.

And in case you decide to get one of those flu shots in Walgreens. Check the label. I think the manufacturer will sound familiar. And if you still want to get it, I won’t stop you.

Thinking about winning a lottery and buying that million dollar house you always wanted?? Think again. Many people don’t realize that real estate prices are still too high and don’t calculate how much real estate taxes they will have to pay every year, a percentage of the buying price. There is a house in Pacifica I had my eye on, beach front, sunny, lots of windows. It is on sale right now for 1,400,000 ($1.4 million). That is the asking price. This year in March, it was sold (to the bank) for $200,000. The rest of the price hike is due to remodeling improvements. So even if I, all of a sudden, came upon this much money, my real estate property taxes are going to be $12,000 a year. If I owned this house for 10 years, it will add up to $120,000 – that’s another house somewhere in the valley. Last week in San Francisco, a penthouse was sold for $35 million. That is $35,000 a year in property taxes. In 10 years it will add up to $350,000. All this property tax money, supposedly, goes to the corresponding county.

Money to be spent on schools and services benefiting the community. This, compared to the income taxes, is the larger chunk of all. However, counties claim lack of funds and schools are being closed every year, teachers laid off and libraries downsized.

So where does the money go???
Someone needs to investigate.

Going back to the real estate prices. I would hold out. Don’t buy into it. The banks have us all convinced that the price of the house is this much, using complicated words like appraisal and whatever else. The truth is, they will have to sell the house to someone, otherwise, they are responsible for paying the property taxes as property owners.

Before buying a house, I would check on the following:
1) The market value of the house
2) The land value
3) The previous sale price
4) If owned by the bank, the amount they paid for it and their property tax
5) The prices of the neighboring houses
6) The crime statistics in the area
7) Why did it get sold

Some of this information can be found here, by address:
http://www.propertyshark.com

$1,4 million or $200,000??
This posting got deleted shortly after it got posted. The person named Myles Rohnson claimed he owned this apartment, it is the “only property” they got and they need someone to take care of it “like their own”. Him and his wife got transferred to Uk to work with the UNICEF. Such a said story. He also wanted the rent to be transferred via Western Union or Money Gram, promising the keys and rental agreement to be FedExed as soon as they got the money. The Creekside apartment management office at this address did not know of anyone owning the apartment and were not aware that someone is trying to rent their property via craigslist.

Craigslist warns their users about scam. Here are very important and healthy alerts they offer:

DEAL LOCALLY WITH FOLKS YOU CAN MEET IN PERSON – follow this one rule and avoid 99% of scam attempts on craigslist.

NEVER WIRE FUNDS VIA WESTERN UNION, MONEYGRAM or any other wire service – anyone who asks you to do so is a scammer.

FAKE CASHIER CHECKS & MONEY ORDERS ARE COMMON, and BANKS WILL CASH THEM AND THEN HOLD YOU RESPONSIBLE when the fake is discovered weeks later.

CRAIGSLIST IS NOT INVOLVED IN ANY TRANSACTION, and does not handle payments, guarantee transactions, provide escrow services, or offer “buyer protection” or “seller certification”
NEVER GIVE OUT FINANCIAL INFORMATION (bank account number, social security number, eBay/PayPal info, etc.)

AVOID DEALS INVOLVING SHIPPING OR ESCROW SERVICES and know that ONLY A SCAMMER WILL “GUARANTEE” YOUR TRANSACTION.

DO NOT RENT HOUSING WITHOUT SEEING THE INTERIOR, OR PURCHASE EXPENSIVE ITEMS SIGHT-UNSEEN – in all likelihood that housing unit is not actually for rent and that cheap item does not exist.
