Today I was walking along the sidewalk in Los Altos, California, heading to the local store. My dog Fila was walking beside me on the short leash, something I insisted he'd do when I walk fast.

Suddenly, he stopped and pulled the leash forcing me to stop too. He had to sniff exactly that specific corner at that specific moment. I got mad at first. "What the hell is he doing? I told him it is not the time to sniff anything..." was the thought crossing my mind.

As soon as I pulled him away, I stepped into a driveway and froze. Some car was speeding away from the parking lot into the driveway. It stopped just a few inches short of my body. I didn't see it and I didn't hear it. All I remember is a car stopping right in front of me.

Everybody was fine. The driver gestured "sorry" with his hand and we continued our walk.

I didn't realize what happened until hours later.
Fila saved my life today.
